About

make and save money onlineFirst things first, this site is part experiment, part historical, and part learning experience for me.

There are TONS of sites and blogs out there about making money online. Do a search for the phrase “make money online” in Google and you get over 25 million results!

What I’m looking to do here is talk about not only making the money to stuff in your coffee can, but ways to save, earn, spend, and save (yes, I said that twice) your cash so that you can stop living paycheck to paycheck, and reward yourself later on. Given the nature of the US and our social security system, anyone under the age of 35 is going to pretty much be screwed come retirement age. We have to take our finances into our own hands, and plan for our future.

A little about me:

I’m a 31 year old woman, single/never married with no children, and temporarily living with my father due to some pitfalls I ran into after 9/11. Part of what’s getting me off my duff at this age is the realization that I’ve let those pitfalls keep me down for over 6 years, and am feeling like I should’ve been back on my feet by now. I had to make a major life change back then, moving back to New York (into my childhood home!) from Florida, and completely tossing my career after spending several years and many thousands of dollars in college to earn it. Yep, it was pretty depressing, and took me about two years to even decide where I was going to go with my life, and another four to make it there.

I currently own and operate an online business which has grown by leaps and bounds in the two years since it began. I’ve met people from all over the world from bloggers to personal coaches to entrepreneurs, and being “all of the above” myself has given me tons of knowledge to give and take.

The thing is, I’ve rarely been in a position in life to really save a ton of money. It seems that, like many Americans, once you get a little ahead, something comes up to take you back down a couple notches in the bank account. How many people out there have both a full-time and part-time job, or are working full-time, but trying to write a blog in their spare time to make some extra cash? More than you might imagine.

I figure it this way, there are TONS of ways to earn/save more than you spend. Take your earnings and divvy them up the right way so that you can make the most of them. I’m here to figure that out, put it into practice, and see where it takes me.

I have goals, and while they may be smaller than some, they’re my own. When I reach them, I’ll set new ones. Check out the coffee can goal sheet for more details, and maybe some inspiration to set your own!

For what it’s worth, I came up with the name Coffee Can Cash because I tend to keep my spare change in a coffee can. I’ve also heard of people keeping several coffee cans, which means they need to make and drink the coffee first. I’m a coffee addict, thereby have lots of cans. Some of them are even pretty! I wanna fill them up, and I encourage you to grab a can yourself and start saving!
